Military sites for genealogy

Sorry for the silence over the past couple of weeks, a few things had come up but don’t worry, I hadn’t forgotten about you 🙂

I’ve been sifting through some old magazines and papers again and located my little list of military sites to look through if you have, or think you might have an ancestor who was in WW1.

I found a couple of these sites to be very useful as a lot of my ancestors were in either the army or air force.

http://www.spartacusschoolnet.co.uk/fwwhome.htm    –  this site is based primarily on schools and is a great intro on the home front.

http://www.home-front.org.uk/rationing/first_world_war.asp   –  heaps of info on this site, covering rationing for both wars. So you get a good idea of just how much people were given to live on.

http://www.iwm.org.uk/server/show/nav.1895   –  this is the Imperial War Museum website

http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/britain_wwone/women_employment_01.shtml   –   A very good site into the role women played during the war, the site includes links to further reading.

Happy hunting 🙂
