Fantastic offering

Finally the website for Squnches Craft Network is ready to launch tomorrow on November 1st.

This has been a huge dream of mine for so long, it started out as just a little idea, then a dream and then something which nearly consumed me, to make the best interactive craft business directory around, one that was fun, exciting, full of information and a gallery of photos, where anyone can be a part of it no matter their craft or experience level.

With the help of a really good friend from Inspire Media the website was put together with some really cool software, anyone wanting a website no matter how big or small should get in touch with these guys, they really are fantastic!

For the launch of the website we are offering an amazing deal to all Australian craft businesses.

Business Listings
Business Listings, currency is Australian dollars

I will let you all in on a secret now, we are already thinking of expanding to included overseas businesses.

This site was created thanks to a lot of input and many wonderful ideas from everyday people and businesses themselves, it is expected to become something huge!

Not just an ordinary directory, there is a gallery for photos of business stock, your own projects and creations, a calendar for upcoming events where people can comment if they are attending or not and where in the event they might be situated, not only that but a sales section so that any registered and listed business can advertise their upcoming sales.

Its the one stop site for craft businesses and craft minded people, no more searching all over the internet to find what you are looking for, take a look at this site and within moments you can find just what you are looking for.

Exciting times ahead

With my course completed and a determined look on my face, I’m putting together a website for all the creative, arty and crafty people. Targeting Australian business for now, but don’t let that stop you, if there is enough interest then I will be expanding overseas ๐Ÿ™‚

Squnches Craft Network is more than just a directory, it brings together the whole of the craft community. Whether you paint with brushes or airbrush, sketch, create bead work, make candles or beautiful cakes, everyone is welcome at Squnches Craft Network.

Everything your little heart desires, in terms of art and craft, can be found on this page. It will take awhile to add businesses but until then the community is welcome to come and be a part of it, share their own creations, let people know what businesses have what stock in store and so on.

The Squnches Craft Network is on track to be online on November 1st this year, so exciting! Craft is a passion of mine and I have dabbled in a few from sketching to knitting, patchwork quilting, beadwork and also crochet ๐Ÿ™‚ Anyone is welcome to come along and register to use the site, its free. Businesses can have a look at the business listing deals we have going. We do ask that people don’t advertise to sell their products on this page, if you wish to sell then you need to be a registered business and list your business on the site ๐Ÿ™‚

Meanwhile, in my spare time away from working on the website, I have been busily working on this crochet blanket, the patchwork quilt has taken a back seat for the moment but will still be completed for Christmas. I’m a little more excited about the blanket at the moment with all the colours, that and it is a lot easier to work on while relaxing on the couch and watching T.V ๐Ÿ™‚

So far I have 50 of the squares made and another 5 of the little rounds completed, already it is looking like it will need more wool.

The challenge for me has been keeping the center of the rounds nice and small, some of these easily fit on my little finger like a ring haha.

Stunning and Gorgeous

I’ve loved patchwork quilting since I started it as a bit of a hobby a few years ago, though I have to admit that some of the fabric really isn’t that eye catching or inspiring and so you are really having to get intricate with your designs to make the most of the fabric so the end result is eye catching and flows well.

While adding to my huge list, I found a site I wish I had found a long time ago, they stock some amazing panels which are simply breath taking. You can pick from 6″ square panels to 17″ square panels, all are beautiful. There are even sets offered such as Seashell Delight, Magnolia Sky, Leafy Katydid plus you can have a look at Peoples Creations. Certainly value for money and very inspirational.

Some of the many fabric patches from Naturesface

Naturesface is located in Queensland though they do not give a business address so all your shopping will have to be done online on their website and they offer free postage worldwide on all fabric patch purchases. The patches are made from Organic Cotton Sateen Fabric and you can view larger images to see more detail.

I know where I’ll be buying a pile of fabric for my next patchwork quilt ๐Ÿ™‚

Bitten by the Bug

We’ve all been bitten by the bug at least once in our lives, I’m not talking about mosquitoes or the flu, I’m talking about a hobby or something you do once and just fall in love with it and have to keep doing it over and over again.

I grew up watching Mum sew and knit, grandma knitted too, so it was pretty hard for me to not follow in their footsteps. I learned to knit before I was even 10 years old, not that it was anything impressive, kept dropping stitches or making them too tight. Then, in the last couple of years I’ve moved on to sewing and in particular quilting.

Thanks to this rather enjoyable hobby, I’ve developed an impressive list of businesses and enjoy sharing with you just what they have to offer, it helps to get people out and about, finding new places and hobbies, even Mum asks me from time to time which business is a good supplier of what.

Today I closed my eyes, pointed my finger at the list and landed on a business over in Western Australia called Carol’s of Midland, everything needed to start up a new hobby ofย  sewing, upgrade what you have or add to that ever towering pile of fabrics already stored in your little craft room.

They have a Hooterville quilt kit, I’m set ๐Ÿ™‚

Looking through the long list of quilt kits, you can see why it is such a great store, quilts for new born babies, cot quilts, kids quilts for both boys and girls and then there are the quilts for the adults. They don’t only stock kits for quilts, they have kits for cushions, table runners and bags too. Don’t panic, if you haven’t got all the accessories they’ll help you out there too, they supply cutters, self healing cutting mats, Janome machines and Pfaff machines and all that goes with these machines.

If you have never done quilting or sewing before in your life then don’t be scared, at Carol’s of Midland you can take a class and learn how to make some of the most basic of designs right up to the more intricate, you’ll be snuggling up to a gorgeous patchwork quilt in no time ๐Ÿ™‚

Vintage and Floral

Today I was on a bit of a mission, I was desperate to find some fabric to go with this quilt I’m making and so I ran through this HUGE list of businesses I have, looked local first but unfortunately it didn’t help. I did come across a business that was very interesting, nothing really like what I was after for my quilt but certainly caught my attention.

If you are in the market for vintage prints or you enjoy the lovely oriental prints that are around then this business is certainly right up your alley, so why not grab a cuppa and have a read ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve got a couple friends who are in their 20’s and just love the vintage fashion and they even attend swing dancing, they get their hair and make up done to look just like a 1930’s actress who has just stepped out of a movie, incredible.

Quiltsmith specialises in vintage prints, the ones you would find in the 1800’s to 1930’s, but not just this, they also do oriental fabrics and many other treasures including books, patterns and of course Block of the Month Quilts. If you perhaps find it a little hard to imagine what a vintage print would look like then think back to your grandparents or great grandparents (depending on your current age) houses and the upholstery perhaps carpet and even the clothing they perhaps used to wear. If you are still in doubt then have a look at the Quiltsmith website and select ‘Our Products’ and be amazed at the possibilities.

I think I found fabric in there very much like an old plastic tablecloth we had when I was a child, white background with colourful dots all over it, aaah the memories ๐Ÿ™‚

More Than Meets The Eye

This lovely quilting and fabric shop I’m about to tell you about is one that I’ve been to a few times before, it is in my home town of Port Lincoln. Though it might not be as big as the shops you would find in the city, it certainly has a nice variety of materials, supplies and projects, much more available in the shop than you can see on their website I assure you.

Patchwork Pear 03The friendly staff at The Patchwork Pear can help you with just about any problem you might have regarding quilting, they supply a wonderful assortment of wadding and can even put your quilt together for you, for a fee of course. If you are not comfortable in placing online orders using Paypal then give them a call and they can arrange something for you.

You can even take classes, find a range of fabrics, they sell sewing machines and a variety of kits and projects plus all the tools you need to complete a beautiful masterpiece. The Patchwork Pear is, in a way, a bit like a book, you can’t go judging it from its website alone.

Is there even such a word? If not then there should be because it would describe me well, though I would say I’ve only a mild case compared to some, it is intensifying with age ๐Ÿ™‚

People living over in Western Australia sure are blessed to have this wonderful business I’ve just come across, looking through the website it is an Aladdin’s cave full of everything a quilter would ever want, need or dream of having and more.

As you can see they really do have a variety of designs from ones working with colours and others working with prints and they certainly have a large variety of prints to choose from. Oriental, floral, Australiana, birds and even your childrens style of prints. Put it this way, if you can’t find the print you are after anywhere, you will surely find it here in this store ๐Ÿ™‚

If you aren’t in the area or want to have a look at what they have in store before taking a drive to the business, then you can have a look at their website where you can also order online. I don’t know about you but I love receiving parcels in the mail, it always feels like Christmas.

So much inspiration

If I wasn’t so careful I would end up with such a pile of debt and such a wonderful pile of fabric to go with it ๐Ÿ™‚ I guess that’s what you could call happily in debt.

For all you crafty people out there, you sewers, quilters and quite frankly anyone who loves to make beautiful things out of fabric, have I found a beauty for you. This business is in Clayfield in Queensland but don’t panic if you are nowhere near because they of course have a website, which is great for me because they stock some stunning fabrics.

Though if you are not after fabric and more interested in finding a project you can work on while in the area or even while traveling around Australia, then look up Apatchy Quilting, they have a lovely range of stitcheries and kits you can really wrap your creativity around.

I’ve heard some people pick up little projects from towns they have visited as a memento, instead of buying a magnet I guess, makes good sense to me ๐Ÿ™‚

Rose Amongst the Thorns

The next business I would like to share with everyone is located in the Australian Capital Territory, primarily a patchwork shop which is good news for all those who love to make patchwork quilts in particular, but also wonderful news for anyone who uses fabric in their craft or hobby.

At this wonderful shop known as Rosemont Patchwork Shop, located at 56 Athllon Drive, Tuggeranong, Canberra, you can find all your patchwork and fabric needs. So if you are in the area or just passing through on a holiday then drop on in and see what wonderful little surprises you can find.

PROD_13286_If you have never had anything to do with patchwork quilts then you can take a class and try your hand at making one.

If you have a few skills up your sleeve but out of ideas on patterns, then you can browse through their range of pre-cut designs and enjoy putting together a quilt without the hassle of measuring and cutting the fabric.

They have a range of projects to suit everyone’s skill levels, from the basics to the more challenging designs.

PROD_15739_For those who have access to a computer to design their quilt patterns, Rosemont Patchwork Shop stocks the Electric Quilt 7 software, which to me looks like a piece of software I really need to get my hands on.

But don’t you worry, if you are nowhere near this wonderful business then you can check out their website and perhaps place an online order ๐Ÿ™‚
